THE CRISIS THAT STARTED THE MODEL

In 2010, my son faced a serious health crisis. Two groups of doctors offered conflicting diagnoses and treatment plans, and I was being asked to choose between them. The decision felt impossible because it was not an abstract management problem. It was my son’s life.

BOTH, NOT EITHER

Peter Senge’s The Fifth Discipline gave me a way through. A systems archetype on one page reframed the choice: not either-or, but both-and. One medical team was addressing symptoms while the other pursued the fundamental solution. We worked with both, and I quietly coordinated the whole.

FROM FAMILY EXPERIENCE TO SYSTEMS INTELLIGENCE

At the time I did not know I was treating my son’s health as a complex adaptive system. I only knew that the parts could not be understood or managed in isolation. That intuition became the seed of the Systems Intelligence Model (SIM): a way to make the whole visible before deciding where to intervene.

THE QUESTION SCHOOL DID NOT ANSWER

I had three master’s degrees, 48 graduate courses, including 17 at doctoral level, and experience across nine venture attempts. Seven of those ventures failed. The recurring question was not whether I needed more effort. It was: what on earth did school not teach me?

THE SEARCH FOR A MISSING DISCIPLINE

I went through roughly 2,500 books and papers looking for the missing piece. Senge had described the need for a sixth discipline: a practical design discipline and notation that could make systems thinking usable beyond specialists. SIM is my answer to that challenge.

A MODEL OF THE WHOLE VENTURE

The model treats a venture as four connected engines: Product/Service, Customer, Cash, and Skills. They are not departments or independent funnels. They exchange value, information, constraints, and feedback through recurring loops, under one governance layer.

WHY AI MADE THIS URGENT

AI can multiply output without improving coherence. When agents accelerate work inside only one part of the venture, they can amplify the wrong constraint or starve another engine. The bottleneck moves from production to direction: seeing the whole, choosing the leverage point, and bounding the work.

WHY SYSDOM EXISTS

Sysdom turns SIM into product-centered venture-creation infrastructure. It is the agentic venture builder: one operating view for founders to diagnose the venture, preserve context, coordinate bounded agent work, attach evidence to consequential decisions, and keep human approval at the boundaries that matter.

WHAT I AM BUILDING FOR

This is for founders who can now ship faster than ever and still cannot see what to fix next. The aim is not to automate judgment away. It is to give one person enough structure to direct a coherent venture without recreating a conventional organization around every new capability.

THE WORK REMAINS OPEN

Conscious Systems carries the full model. The Systems Intelligence Architecture paper develops the formal architecture. Sysdom is where the method becomes operational. The work is public because a discipline becomes useful only when other people can test, apply, and improve it.
